Detailed Agenda
Day 1 : Section 1
9:15 – 10:00 am
Data, Text and Web Data Mining overview
Data mining is a powerful technology for automated learning from historical data and utilizing discovered knowledge to predict outcomes of future situations. Pioneering businesses have implemented data mining in their decision support systems. There have been numerous well-publicized successes that have proven that the new technology indeed offers enormous potential. Yet, an important question to ask is why so many data mining projects fail in delivering useful results. We will outline the pitfalls and shortcuts to success in data mining, and discuss the most efficient analytical project setup. We would like to hear about your interests and needs, summarize them and address these issues in more detail throughout the seminar.
10:10 – 11:50 am
Data Mining made easy: tasks, techniques and systems
This seminar addresses the main issues involved in incorporating a data mining application in an existing business operation. We discuss the difficulties in establishing a successful data mining link in your business intelligence chain – and identify solutions that help overcome the difficulties. We demonstrate how you can structure your project and what capabilities your selected data mining tool should have in order to maximize the return on investment in the project. We help locate key points that determine the success or failure of a project. We will discuss new technologies, such as Universal Model Application that helps scoring data in any external source through a standard protocol, and In-Place Data Mining that allows processing very large databases in their entirety.
11:50 – 1:00 pm
Lunch and Networking
You can plan on having good food and useful discussions. You will have an opportunity to discuss your projects and share experiences with your peers from other companies and with Megaputer analysts.
1:00 – 2:45 pm
Hands-on analysis of marketing data with PolyAnalyst
No general discussion of data mining techniques can substitute the hands-on experience in using one of the leading data mining tools to solve real-world tasks with actual customer data. This portion of the seminar takes you through a complete response prediction project – from formulating the task to data transformation and modeling, and to the final implementation of the results of the analysis. You are going to carry out the entire project yourself with the help of PolyAnalyst and your instructor. The instructor will be explaining the business task and the data and carefully taking you through each step of the project. We have found that this approach offers the quickest way for learning the functionality of a data mining system and assimilating the logic of a complete data mining project. There is no better way to master data mining in a very short time and under the guidance of an experienced instructor.
2:55 – 4:40 pm
Data Mining II: applying models to external data, batch script processing, and in-place data mining
After learning how to prepare data, build, and interpret models with the help of PolyAnalyst, we continue to address additional procedures and questions.
How do I incorporate the created predictive model in my business operation?
Can I repeat the same analytical actions as I have more data for training in my system?
Is it possible to collaborate on this data analysis project with other analysts in my organization?
Do I have means to process a large database (>50GB size) in its entirety using PolyAnalyst?
These are questions addressed in the Data Mining II session through a hands-on approach. You will learn to apply created models to external sources, export models to XML, batch script mining and finally in-place data mining.
4:50 – 5:30 pm
Discussion an recommendations for your data analysis project
One of the main objectives of the Data, Text and Web Data Mining seminar is to teach to utilize the power of data mining in your business environment. In this short session, Megaputer analysts will try to outline specifics of how data mining can be incorporated in your project to derive extra value from your data. These recommendations might serve as a first step in the cooperative relationship between you and Megaputer aimed at leveraging the full business potential of your data. Megaputer analytical team can help you quickly develop a turnkey solution involving the best data mining practices.
Day 2 : Section 2
9:00 – 10:45 am
Text Mining overview: tasks, techniques and systems
Do you know that as much as 90% of knowledge that is important to an organization exists in the form of text? Would you like to tap into your most abundant knowledge resource? Articles, e-mails, call support notes, web pages, manuals, and memorandums all contain important knowledge that can be utilized for making informed business decisions. The problem is that this knowledge is dispersed in huge volumes of unstructured text. Objectives and techniques for analyzing text differ significantly from those designed for analyzing relational databases. Here we discuss different existing approaches to intelligent text processing and present capabilities and foundations of an innovative text mining tool, TextAnalyst.
How new text analysis technologies help addressing typical business needs?
What text analysis tasks can be solved through automated semantic text analysis?
What are the leading-edge text analysis technologies of today?
What text analysis tasks can be solved with tools offered by Megaputer?
You will find answers to these and many other related questions during this session.
10:55 – 11:50 am
Hands-on analysis of textual data
You will get a chance to practice analyzing data from various applications areas with the help of text analysis tools offered by Megaputer. The instructor will take you through a case study introducing you to a real business problem and methods to solve it discuss possible ways to solve the problem, and take you step by step through achieving the goal with the help of Megaputer products.
You will learn the main techniques for text analysis such as summarization, topic extraction, natural language searching, and dynamic attention refocusing, as well as text clustering, categorization, and ontology building. Finally, we will demonstrate the role of dictionaries in a text analysis system and the capabilities of exporting the results in various formats compatible with other components of the enterprise decision support system.
11:50 am – 1:00 pm
Lunch and Networking
You can plan on having good food and useful discussions. You will have an opportunity to discuss your projects and share experiences with your peers from other companies and with Megaputer analysts.
Day 2 : Section 3
1:00 – 2:45 pm
