Bloomington, IN – February 4, 2003. — MEGAPUTER Intelligence Inc. announced that it has partnered with Prentice Hall and provided a suite of Megaputer data analysis software tools to accompany two new Prentice Hall books: “Decision Support Systems in the 21st century” and “Modern Data Warehousing, Mining, and Visualization” by Prof. George M. Marakas.
These new Prentice Hall textbooks, aimed at MBA and Information Systems students, discuss the utilization of modern IT systems in the decision making process of business managers. The first edition of the book “Decision Support Systems in the 21st century” was used as the main textbook for various decision support-related courses at dozens of universities worldwide.
The current aggressive industry trend for using advanced DSS tools to make better business decisions created the need for a new generation of textbooks going beyond an overview of the field and providing students with the hands-on experience in using standard data analysis systems. Responding to this challenge, a recent addition of the leading data mining tools from Megaputer helps the new Prentice Hall books stand out as the first textbooks supplementing the theoretical background of business students with practical data analysis skills sought by employers.
“Equipping the new books with analytical tools by Megaputer allowed Prentice Hall to deliver a complete hands-on DSS course textbook for business students, resulting in more profound practical experience with industry standard analysis and visualization techniques and better future employment opportunities for these students,” says Robert Horan, Executive Editor, MIS, Prentice Hall. “The utilization of Megaputer software facilitated a yet broader acceptance of these new best-selling books throughout the world.”
The Megaputer flagship data mining suite, PolyAnalyst™, the first data mining tool offering algorithms for analyzing both structured and unstructured data, as well as other Megaputer analytical systems are shipping with both Prentice Hall books. PolyAnalyst is a comprehensive suite of advanced data mining and visualization tools featuring the broadest selection of machine learning algorithms.
“I selected the Megaputer software suite to accompany my new books because it offered means for meeting key analytical challenges faced by today’s decision makers,” says George Marakas, Book Author. “Efficiently discovering and reporting knowledge dispersed in data, Megaputer tools help introduce students to leading data analysis and visualization techniques. In addition, Megaputer Educational Program facilitates a smooth continuation of the joint use of the textbooks and the software tools beyond the evaluation period.”
Megaputer Educational Program offers a combination of the course license for PolyAnalyst and other BI systems, supplemented by student problems with solutions, step-by-step tutorials with projects from different application fields, business case studies, and student certification.
“Recognizing the importance of the introduction of data mining techniques to university courses, we are especially proud to have partnered on this project with Prentice Hall, the world’s leading publisher of academic and reference textbooks” says Brian Moore, Marketing Director, Megaputer. “We expect that practical data mining skills will become a valuable supplement to a standard background of a modern MBA student.”
